Where To Stay When Visiting Mauritius

I was recently invited by World Leisure Holidays to visit Mauritius, and I got to see some of the most magnificent hotels on the island. I also saw some of the attractions, so I decided to do two articles about my trip to make sure you get the most out of your stay. Stay tuned for my article about some of the fun activities to do during your trip!

During my visit to Mauritius I saw 4 resorts, all of which were absolutely breathtaking. But two of them stole my heart, and here’s why.

La Pirogue Resort & Spa

I felt at home at La Pirogue from the moment I lay eyes on the ‘hippy chic’ design. Maybe it’s because it somehow reminded me of childhood holidays in the Garden Route, or maybe because it matched the picture I’d always had in my head of Mauritius. But I loved it instantly.

La Pirogue is situated on the West side of the island and has 248 rooms, which includes forty-six superior rooms and two Royal Suites. What really blew me away is the fact that ALL of these rooms are ground floor! The resort is MASSIVE and I found myself getting lost on my way to dinner on two separate occasions. Luckily the staff is incredibly friendly, and both times someone immediately assisted me – the one time I even got a ride on a golf cart! #Score

The resort has a really relaxed atmosphere, and they are very attuned to bringing their guests the best entertainment 24/7 a day. There’s something to do around every corner, so if you’re the active type you can go snorkeling, PADI diving center, big-game fishing, sailing, waterskiing… The list goes on and on. At night you can dine out at any of the 5 restaurants, or watch live entertainment.

And if none of this is your vibe, you can also just sit and chill on the beach with some coconut water!

We stayed in some of the newly renovated rooms, with thatch roofs, high ceilings, crisp white walls and something I got really excited about: USB wall plugs! So you can charge your phone/powerbank/camera using only the USB cable. More battery life to take photos of your holiday, yay!

Another awesome part about staying at La Pirogue, is that you have access to its sister resort, Sugar Beach. So if you feel like a change of scenery, you can walk to their resort (which is super close!) and take a dip in their pool or visit Aura Spa.

La Pirogue is also the perfect place to tie the knot, or to renew your vows with spectacular views all around you.

If you have kids, La Pirogue is definitely the resort for you as they have an amazing entertainment hub for children. Stroll on the beach while your kids have a ball at the kids centre!

Overall, I loved staying at La Pirogue for one big reason: everyone there is incredibly passionate about their jobs, and would literally do anything to make your trip as unforgettable as possible. If I can give you one tip for your trip, speak to the staff at the resort about Mauritius. They have a wealth of knowledge and are so happy to share more information about their beautiful island with you.

Ambre

There’s no better word to describe the ambience at Ambre than ‘lekker’. We were invited for lunch and a tour of the resort, and I was absolutely enamoured by Ambre’s effortless charm.

Ambre is an adults only resort, which means that you have to be over the age of 16 in order to stay there. What really sparked my interest, however, is that the resort is all inclusive. So basically all your drinks and food is covered in the package fee, which at this point of my life sounds absolutely amazing. When you’re in your mid-twenties, and you’re still finding yourself at work, paying rent and trying to make sense of this thing called adulthood – a trip like this can be quite ambitious. Therefore I think that Ambre is the ideal resort for people like me who want to get the most bang for their buck.

6The resort is situated on the East side of the island, and has ample activities that are included in the package. When we arrived there people were playing volleyball, while others were tanning and having the lunch. The whole atmosphere is just incredibly relaxed and welcoming.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, but not over-the-top fancy. If you’re looking for a laidback vibe, where you won’t be too precious about getting a bit of sand in your bed – this is definitely the place for you!

Aside from the 5 restaurants, Ambre also has a nightclub which is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. A resort with a nightclub… That should say it all to you!
